Creative, wordsmith, brand custodian; there’s a slew of names a copywriter could go by, none of which my parents would understand after over a decade of asking me exactly what it is I do.
So here's what I tell them:
I'm a surgeon.
I dissect briefs and learn everything I can about the ask to create concepts and campaigns that don't just wow in the boardroom but deliver measurable results.
I'm a motivational speaker.
I stand out in presentations, bring ideas to life, and get clients and contributors excited about the work in front of them.
I'm a lawyer.
I consider all angles, testify for top-shelf creative and use my wit to solve clients' communication problems.
Finally, I'm a (insert sport) Hall-of-Famer.
I'm a true team player, believing that the best work is born when ideas flow freely between colleagues and egos are checked at the door.
My parents still aren't impressed. But I trust you'll be.
